PAINTER/DRYWALL FINISHER/GLAZIER

Painters apply coats of paint, varnish, staining, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior  surfaces, trimmings, and  fixtures of  buildings and other structures.  They may also prepare and cover  room interior walls and ceilings with wallpaper, fabrics, vinyls, and other materials.   Also, they require additional training in industrial painting (tanks, bridges, etc.).

Drywall finishers perform taping, surfacing, and finishing of all drywall surfaces.

Glaziers select,  cut, install  and remove  all types of glass,  as well as  work with plastics, granite, marble and other materials as glass substitutes.

Length of Apprenticeship:
Three (3) Years – Minimum 600 hours of classroom instruction

*Apprentices receive on-the-job training for nine (9) days out of ten (10).
*Apprentices attend school unpaid, every other week for a full day for all three years of the program.
 NOTE:  This is a mandatory condition of employment.

Wage Information:

1st 6 months   40% of journeyman wage
2nd 6 months   45% of journeyman wage
3rd 6 months    50% of journeyman wage
4th 6 months   55% of journeyman wage
5th 6 months   70% of journeyman wage
6th 6 months   85% of journeyman wage
Journeyman Level 100% of journeyman wage

Basic Requirements:
*Must be at least 17-years old.
*Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, or high school transcript.
*Must be a legal resident.
*Must have access to reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:
Industrial, commercial, residential, working indoors and out in all types of weather.

Recommended Preparatory Classes:
Geometry, plane and solid, general math, drafting and mechanical drawing classes.

Abilities:
*Must be able to work at high levels on ladders and scaffolds.
*Must be able to lift and carry at least 80 pounds.
*Must be able to work in confined spaces.

Work Experience: (Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.)
Previous experience with a painting/drywall finishing contractor is beneficial.

*The number of applicants accepted into the program will be determined by the demand for labor.
