PIPEFITTER

The Pipefitter lays out piping systems for their construction and installation; supporting pre-fabricated  items;  assembling equipment and appurtenances (both new and  existing); and maintaining  the systems  and equipment.   Systems that  a pipefitter  works on  may  include;  steam, condensation, water,  drain  lines, air, gas, chemical, hydraulic, lubrication, heating and refrigeration, and process piping.  Pipefitters work in industrial, chemical, power, and wastewater treatment plants; as well as refineries, hospitals, and most commercial and residential buildings.
Length of Apprenticeship:  
Five
(5) Years – Minimum of 1,250 classroom hours

*1st year– Apprentices work Monday – Friday with a union contractor and attend school on Saturdays.
*2nd & 3rd years– Apprentices work with a union contractor four days a week and school one day per
  week.
*4th & 5th years– Apprentices work Monday – Friday with a union contractor school one evening per
  week.

Wage Information:
Apprentices earn a percentage of the Journeyman's wage rate.  Specific wage information will be given to accepted applicants.

Basic Requirements:
*$20.00 non-refundable application fee for each application (cash or money order).
*Copy of birth certificate.
*Copy of high school diploma or a G.E.D. certificate with G.E.D. scores.
*Official copy of high school transcript.
*Valid driver's license.

Working Conditions:
Pipefitters work both indoors and outdoors and in all types of weather conditions. 
Work is frequently performed at high altitudes or in tunnels below ground. 

Recommended Preparatory Classes:
Reading, mathematics, science, algebra, geometry, and shop classes.

Abilities:
*Must not be afraid of working at high altitudes.
*Must be able to work in confined spaces.
*Must be able to maintain good grades and attendance.

*Must have a good work ethic.

Work Experience: (Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.)
Experience with jobs in construction that require using motor skills or working with mechanical equipment is useful.

Entry Process:
*Applications must be completed on site.
*
Applications are available on the 1st Wednesday of every month from 8:00 am -12:00 pm.
*Applicant must supply a 3-year work history, if applicable.  Information needed is:
 Name of employer, employer address/phone numbers and name of supervisor.
