SHEET METAL WORKERS Sheet Metal Workers perform work in industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential markets. They specialize in fabrication, installation and servicing of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, architectural sheet metal, siding and decking, testing and balancing, and energy management maintenance

Length of Apprenticeship: Four (4) Years – Classroom training: 144 hours per year
Apprentices attend school two nights a week.

Wage Information:
1^st Year/1^st 6 months	40% of journeyman wage
1^st Year/2^nd 6 months	45% of journeyman wage
2^nd Year/1^st 6 months	50% of journeyman wage
2^nd Year/2^nd 6 months	55% of journeyman wage
3^rd Year/1^st 6 months	60% of journeyman wage
3^rd Year/2^nd 6 months	65% of journeyman wage
4^th Year/1^st 6 months	70% of journeyman wage
4^th Year/2^nd 6 months	75% of journeyman wage

Basic Requirements: Must be at least 17-years old. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and transcript of grades. Must present a copy of birth certificate. Must pass an aptitude test. *Must be a resident of Bureau, LaSalle, Putnam, Marshall, or Stark Counties of Illinois.

Working Conditions: Sheet Metal Workers work in all types of conditions, both indoors and out.

Recommended Preparatory Classes: Mathematics, algebra, blueprint reading, drafting, and shop classes.

Abilities: Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade.

Work Experience: (Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.) Previous employment in construction or experience with computers and drafting would be beneficial.

Entry Process: Must meet basic requirements as listed above. Must submit all necessary documents. Take and pass aptitude test. Attend interview. Applicants, after completing all requirements, will be ranked by their results and placed on a list. This list will be maintained for two years.
